TRAIL 2 Llucmajor, ses
Salines, Santanyí
Talayot of Son Noguera One can see the talayot of
Son Noguera on one's left as one arrives in Llucmajor by
the old road from s'Arenal. It is one of the best preserved
in the area and is well known for its great ashlars and entrance.
Many years ago, it was surrounded by other historical constructions
that have been demolished.
Es Pedregar On the left hand side of the road from
Llucmajor to Cala Pi, one goes past the Pedregar estate.
The estate is full of prehistoric remains, although many
of them cannot be visited as they are on private property.
To the right of the entrance, there is an ancient stretch
of wall where various talayots were built together and can
now be admired from the road. If one ventures down the lane,
one comes to an extensive sacred area, with several sanctuary
buildings and a terraced monument.
*Capocorb Vell is on the road to Cap Blanc. (Opening
hours: from 10am to 5 pm daily, except Thursday). The settlement
was excavated in the 1920's by Josep Colominas (Instiutut
de'Estudis Catalans); this is a historical site that will
make a lasting impression on any visitor. There are three
main areas of interest. The first are the circular talayots.
The second feature of note are the two square talayots that
flank the central zone and the third is the maze like design,
a conglomeration of rooms connected by a wall that stretches
from one square talayot to the other. A little further away
from this third area, there is an apsidal shaped room. Very
near Capocorb, there is a burial cave in the cliffs of the
Cala Pi water course. For the best views of the one really
has to go to the other side of the cove.
*Els Antigors Leaving Ses Salines by the street past
the church one comes to the Pou Jou estate. The first thing
that one sees is the largest talayot of the settlement, the
Talaia Joana, which is one of the best preserved in Majorca.
This settlement has a 'modern' terraced design with two talayots
and the other rooms all together. It also had a sanctuary,
which was covered over with stones after the excavation carried
out by Colominas.
Ses Talaies de Can Jordi. After leaving Santanyí on
the road to Cas Concos, one takes the first made-up lane
on the right, which leads to the settlement of ses Talaies.
There is a large piece of talayotic wall with the typical
upright blocks of stone, set upon foundations of stones.
One can make out a circular talayot with its entrance and
central supporting column. Two bronze swords typical of talayotic
culture were found in the area.
* Talayots signposted and visitable.
